Warta "A" vs Hellenic United (1:3)

Well out of the State Cup finals...

The team is out of the State Cup final with a 1:3 defeat to Hellenic United at home.

The match which Warta controlled most of the game with possession failed to win, was a hard to swallow defeat to the home side.  Warta started the match with just 10 men as they didn't wanted to use up their sub for late arrival of the keeper Jakub Bortnik, did manage to do very well.  Adam Wilczewski who stood between the pipes didn't have much to do thru the entire 30 plus minutes before the switch was made.

Hellenic took the lead in the 10th minute of the match by scoring the goal from an offside position.  The player was in the offside position when he received the initial ball before turning around and taking the shot to the far lower corner.

Warta equalized on a great run from the left side by Alan Marin and his cross found Sierak by the far post as he headed the ball pass the Hellenic goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Sierak was substituted in the 37th minute after being fouled and was replaced by the keeper Bortnik sending Adam to the outside midfield position.

Warta kept the possession of the ball throughout the remanding half not giving anything to the visiting team, but in the 43th minute a quick thru ball to the corner flag and a cross the ball was misjudged by Warta keeper and another Polish native Sebastian Pilat of the Hellenic headed the ball thru the hands of Jakub for the 2:1 lead.

The crucial goal before the half time was what forced Warta to make changes and opening up in the second half.   Luke Blakely replacing Adam Wilczewski and 11 minutes later Aziz Bunghazy replacing Tomasz Marczewski.

The second frame of the match was much like the first, Warta controlling the game but failed to score on few occasions as Blakelys' shot was few inches over the bar and so did shot from Alan Marin.

Their best chance to equalize came in the 89th minute when a free kick to the far post found three Warta players but they missed from just three yards out an open net.

Minute later Warta was reduced to ten men when Luke Blakely was shown his second yellow of the match for a foul sending him off the field.

Warta with ten men still looked good but Hellenic found a way thru and with a quick counter attack from which they scored the third goal minute into stoppage time after a keeper missed cached ball fell right into the feet of attacking forward.

Both teams displayed a great soccer as Warta had most of the game but failed to scored and walked off the field defeated.

Hellenic Went on and lost the State Cup Final to Ho Chunk Brusfa on penalty kicks after a 1:1 draw in regulation time.  After the loss. Hellenic protested the game that after regular time there should have been Overtime, but the rules clearly stated as they were also instructed prior to the start of the game, that it will go straight to penalties if the score will be tie.

Despite the protest, the score stayed and Hellienic decided not to represent State of Illinois at the Regional Finals in Fort Wayne Indiana.

Warta was given the chance by the State Cup Commissioner, but due to most of the players being out for that weekend on vacation, they had to turn down the great opportunity and will not continue to follow the trophy for which they prepared the entire season for.

It was a great offer to the Club, but unfortunately after the loss to Hellenic in semifinals, some of the players decided to enjoy the rest of the summer.

Game Roster: Adam Wilczewski  (46 Blakely) - Ivek Halic, Dariusz Niewiarowski, Cvetomir Cvetkov, Eduardo Blancas, Lukasz Borys (70 Ameggase) Traian Maier, Tomasz Marczewski (55 Bunghazy), Alan Marin, Marcin Sierak (37- Jakub Bortnik), Edin Sejdinovic (65 Brierly).
