2008 Baraboo Wing Tournament

With the NSL Weekend off on August 9-10th, Warta took their time and participated in the XXI Annual Wing Tournament in Baraboo Wisconsin.  Warta has been part of this event since 1996.

This year the team brought a bunch of youngsters to this years tournament, and with an impressive display of soccer they failed to advance out of the 4 team group. The team played the entire tournament without a keeper, as Bart Sarnecki and Lukasz Borys took their turns between the woodworks.

Game 1:  Warta vs Wings  0:2

A very late afternoon game vs the hosts of the tournament proved to be a great game. Unfortunately late goals sent Warta down with a defeat.  The team had their best chances in the first half, as few shots didn't find their way and a great opportunity by Marcin Sierak as he had an one on one with the keeper but he placed the ball just wide of the goal.

Wings found their way thru scoring their first goal half way thru the half, as an unmarked player placed a well executed headed off a deep cross into back of the net.  Second goal came right before the final whistle as the hosts scored their second goal of the game.  Bart Sarnecki who was the keeper at that time made some great saves in the first half of the game to keep his team in it all the way.

Game 2: Warta vs Connection  1:3

As the team finished their first game, they had to march right to field number 2 for their second straight game as Connection awaiting.  It looked like Warta would make it interesting and they did, for most of the half before opponent scored his goal, but the fun was spoiled few minutes later by Bart Lasek as he equalized for Warta.

After that Connection took the advantage of a field player in the goal and scored two goals off defensive masques and sent Warta back to their camp grounds defeated.

Game 3: Warta vs Palermos  4:0

In the final game of the group stage, Warta playing against Palermos were spectacular as they walked away with a 4:0 win.  Unfortunetly the win came at the end of their run.  A great creative soccer gave them a well deserved win.  Marcin Sierak was the scorer of all four goals in the first half.  This time it was Lukasz Borys in goal as he kept a clean sheet.
